Clinical services

Minnesota Blue Line Therapy provides individualized counseling for adults, adolescents, couples, families, and first responders.

Dr. Matt Stiehm works with clients experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationship difficulties, behavioral concerns, and challenges associated with work in law enforcement, corrections, and other high-stress professions.

Treatment is individualized to the person rather than based solely on a diagnosis or label. Dr. Stiehm works with clients to understand the circumstances contributing to their concerns, identify patterns that may be maintaining the problem, and develop practical strategies for moving forward.

Anxiety

Dr. Stiehm takes a practical approach to anxiety. His work focuses on understanding the stressors in a person's life, how that individual experiences anxiety, and the patterns that can create what he refers to as the "anxiety cycle."

Treatment may focus on recognizing triggers, understanding physical and emotional responses, changing unhelpful patterns, and developing practical coping strategies.

Depression

Depression does not look the same for everyone. Symptoms can vary in type, intensity, duration, and impact on daily life.

Dr. Stiehm works with clients to understand how depression is affecting their thoughts, emotions, relationships, motivation, and daily functioning while developing an individualized treatment approach.

Trauma

Trauma can affect how a person experiences safety, relationships, emotions, memories, and everyday situations.

Dr. Stiehm provides trauma-informed counseling and may incorporate evidence-based approaches appropriate to the client's circumstances, treatment goals, and clinical needs.

Stress Management

Stress is a normal part of life, but prolonged or overwhelming stress can affect emotional health, physical well-being, relationships, and professional functioning.

Treatment focuses on identifying sources of stress, understanding individual responses, and developing practical strategies for managing stress more effectively.

Child & Adolescent Counseling

Dr. Stiehm works with children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioral, social, and school-related concerns.

Treatment is adapted to the developmental needs of the young person and may involve collaboration with parents, guardians, schools, or other professionals when clinically appropriate and consistent with applicable confidentiality requirements.

Couples & Relationship Counseling

Relationships can be affected by communication difficulties, conflict, infidelity, changes in family circumstances, stress, and other challenges.

Dr. Stiehm works with couples to better understand relationship patterns, communication, conflict, and the individual contributions each person brings to the relationship.

Discernment Counseling

Discernment counseling is designed for couples who are uncertain about whether to continue their relationship and want greater clarity before making a decision.

Unlike traditional couples therapy, discernment counseling does not focus primarily on changing the relationship during treatment. Instead, the goal is to help each partner develop greater clarity and confidence about the future of the relationship.

Discernment counseling is generally short-term and may involve individual conversations with each partner as part of the structured process.

First Responder Mental Health

Dr. Stiehm provides counseling for law-enforcement officers, corrections professionals, and other first responders.

His background in law enforcement and criminal justice allows him to understand many of the professional and cultural factors that can influence whether first responders seek mental-health services.

Treatment may address anxiety, depression, trauma exposure, occupational stress, relationships, substance use, sleep difficulties, moral injury, and other concerns.

Athlete Mental Performance

Dr. Stiehm also provides counseling and performance-oriented services for student-athletes and others seeking to improve the psychological aspects of performance.

Areas may include confidence, focus, emotional regulation, resilience, motivation, communication, performance anxiety, and recovery following difficult performances.
